General Operations & Field Inquiries

ZAVECO, registered as a non-profit organization in 2007, focuses on four foundational environmental pillars:

  • Reforestation & Afforestation: Replanting trees in cleared spaces and establishing new stands on degraded lands to capture carbon.
  • Marine Conservation: Protecting fragile ocean biomes, coastal reefs, and establishing sustainable mangrove nurseries.
  • Waste Management: Organizing structured collection networks to shield coastlines and marine habits from plastic debris.
  • Community Development: Training local fishermen and communities to couple ecological stewardship with economic resilience.

The SRVP is a unique track tailored specifically for volunteers aged 45 and older, allowing senior professionals, academics, or researchers to leverage their deep life experiences. Participants can assist in planning and organizing our broader volunteer structures, or choose to directly mentor local Zanzibari youth in regional field research and academic writing.

Yes. ZAVECO runs a dynamic local literacy and mathematics support framework. Volunteers who meet basic qualifications can teach Mathematics to primary school students using the standardized Zanzibar basic education curriculum, swap instructional skills with native educators in the mornings, or lead English language conversation workshops for community members during evenings.

Every resource contribution processed by our financial ledger assistant is assigned directly to operational field logistics. This includes maintaining tools for mangrove plantations, purchasing raw materials for community nurseries, supplying data collection equipment to shoreline monitoring teams, and sponsoring baseline youth environmental workshops.

Yes. We build close working relationships with structural environmental authorities, municipal councils, and local university programs like SUZA YouthMappers. These partnerships help ensure our ecological targets remain deeply aligned with Zanzibar's regional conservation regulations and development frameworks.
